For the last eight months I had been experiencing random 30 second delays when saving Microsoft Office documents to the My Documents folder.  When this first occurred there didn't appear to be many solutions, or many people experiencing the problem.  I tried a few things, but none of them helped.  A solution from Microsoft has since appeared...

Apparently this is caused by a network driver problem in Windows 7.  The fix has been released under a KB article for a separate problem, but you can link to it from this one:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2292752.

Here is the symptom description from the above KB article: "On a Windows 7 or Windows 2008 Server R2 machine, you may notice a significant delay saving your Excel 2010 documents into a My Documents (or subfolder like My Pictures) that has been re-mapped to a network location by a group policy. The behavior does not occur every time you save the document."

I have had this fix on my machine for a month now, and I am happy to say that I no longer have to wait for it to save!
